crunch from 1st to 2nd if i change too quickly

I understand that it is quite common on the mk1 that the gear change from 1st to second can be abit crunchy.
Is there a way of getting rid of this?
A friend who has an MX5 said that his car had the same problem and after posting a question on their forum, was told that if you put Redline synthetic gearbox oil in the gearbox then it gets rid of most if not all the crunch. It worked for him and i was wondering if anyone has done the same on the golf and had any results?
Cheers,
Wayne

Read this…

About the fifth post suggests a gearbox oil.   Also, replacing the linkage bushes is stickied and seems to be suggested.

It would be great if a simple oil change could repair worn 2nd gear synchro but in reality the only way is to replace the knackered parts. If you're anywhere near Reading try Car Gears on 0118 969 4063. Well experienced with VW boxes.

1st-2nd gear Synco ring on the way out. Changing the gearbox oil to fully synthetic can help, but really a gearbox strip & re-build is the only way to cure it permanently.

Thanks everyone, i think i will try what Woza said on the link first and then if that doesnt work, i will live with it untill the problem becomes unbearable.
