Coils vs Air ?

Hey guys ! can anyone tell me what the performance of air ride is like compared to coilovers ?  I have a set of coilovers on my mk4 but would like to go down the air route on my mk1 but i'm not sure on what the handling capabilities are like compared to coils.  Any info would be great !

Thanks guys !!

Hi Bag, I can't help with the quality of ride but I'm looking into air for my Mk1 at the minute, I have come to the conclusion that my coilovers, being set as low as they are, do not do the car or my back any good! I figure that with air I can drive the car at a very comfortable ride height whilst lowering it, for an aggressive stance, if I need to. I also think that air ride is not the best for handling unless you have a specialist set up so it depends on the type of driving as to the set up you need. just out of curiosity, where would you be thinking of getting the air ride fitted?

I've heard that the bag yard  bombers are supposed to be pretty decent too , but can't decide if the extra funds are worth it over coils.
Not sure on where I would get them fitted britney , I was just looking into the possibility.

Iv'e been looking at the bag yards too. I was just wondering about fitting because I want to try and do the set up myself and need to contact a few fitters for a little bit of advice. I don't know if its just me getting old but I would like a more comfortable ride for my Mk1 so Iv'e chosen air ride over coilovers. Sorry I cant help much more dude.  :dontknow:

ive heard very good things of the bomber series to bags!! was considering for the mk5 but for the mk1 if handling, fast corners is your thing then suck it up an stay with a decent set of coilovers

mk1 golf 1.8 8v = sold
mk2 golf gti = burned out
mk3 VR6 = wrote off
mk2 seat ibiza gti = sold
mk5 jetta tfsi = stanced and slammed ;)
