coilovers vs struts

changing the suspension on my cabby for something else. Two reasons to press upon is one i want the car lower and more importantly i have bought wheels which foul the existing front legs on the spring land..
i have read the article on the hot tuning coilovers with mixed reaction. however, the question i would ask is are they less obstructive than stock legs… the wheels i have bought are 17 inch and wear 225 tyres. I know that they are probably too big but i stil wanna give em a go. any advice would be welcome

Possibly in the wrong place but your problem as you know is the tyres, far too big. What is it with wanting to fit massive wheels/tyres to the mk1 and ruining it?
