Coilover question please

Hi there. The car I bought has cheap coilovers on and I have wound them right to the bottom and still not as low as I would like and bounces like hell! I don't really want to pay out for different suspension and have noticed that there are 2 springs on the dampers one being less coiled than the other, so am I correct in thinking that I can remove the lower spring, wind it up thus lowering and stiffening the ride??  :dontknow:  :dontknow:

the small spring is a helper spring and should make it a more comfortable ride. Cheap coildovers normaly give a harsh ride and lowered fully should be spine snapping.

What kit did you buy?

It's got tuning art stamped on the side of them.

Have a search around the forum, most of those cheap kits are the same anyway.

It's odd that you say it's bouncy because most people find those kits harsh, the helper spring is a softer spring designed to take the small bumps so that you don't feel every single thing you go over. If you remove them then you will be shortening the shock travel by however long that spring is.

I guess in theory you should be able to run without it as you can raise the spring seat on coilovers so you shouldn't bottom out. You may find it's too harsh but why not give it a go and see how it feels.

Have a search through the forum and google to see if anyone else has the same issue.

to go any lower you will have to take the helper springs out. by bouncy do you mean a solid bounce or a soft wobble? ie are the dampers worn?

Good point! have you had the shocks off and tested them?
If you push the shock down it should come back up on it's own, one of those coilover shocks should be very firm to compress too.
cheap kit that's been on there a while could just be faulty shocks.

The shocks are brand new as guy I bought the car off never run it. Bringing it home it just seemed to slap about on the back end. I'm used to setting suspension by dropping splines so this shouldn't be this hard lol!!!
Thanks for all your help guys, will take off the helper springs and wind the seat up and give it a try!!!
