clutch recommendation needed!

hi. ive got a 1983 mk1 gti running about 140 bhp and 160 lbft. the clutch just about hangs on, it holds well under normal conditions but slips when i really give it some.ive got a track day booked and would like to get it sorted.its a good quality sachs unit adn its not very old. just wondering whats the best/cheapest performance clutches about and what people are using. oh and if anyone has anything that can help for sale that would be cool.
cheers.

16V pressure plate with the stock 8V friction disc (which is the same as the 16V anyway) should do the job. Performance clutches are a bit of a con, since the aforementioned handles quite a bit more power than stock.

just checked on the sachs catalogue and the part number is the same for the mk1 gti and mk2 16v.

For the pressure plate? Sounds about right, Sachs realised the 16V item was better too, and physically the same fitment, so use it in both kits. It makes sense for parts consolidation reasons.

The VW part numbers were different originally (ie different parts) but maybe they supply the 16V item for 8V applications now too? Unsure, not looked on ETKA for a while.

i have a sachs 16v kit on my ABF, handles the power just fine. id assume sachs would put the better 16v part into the 8v kit rather than putting an under-spec part into a 16v kit.

just a case of getting 8v or 16v sachs kit to match the box, as only difference is the size of the input shaft spline. also MK2 2.0 8v uses 16v spline
