CLUTCH IS STIFF

Hi All,
Got a Mk1 golf recently but the clutch is stife and hard when you change gears.
Any idea what i can do to soften it ..

new clutch time,the pressure plate has had it

Thats not a rod knockin,its a diesel stupid! floppy top and 1 tin top
