cheap CV Clamp tool/band

For info

One of my CV boots is (was) held on by a plastic cable tie. I managed to knock the tie off while replacing the wheel bearings, and forgot to put it back on (the CV boot seemed fairly secure).

However, the car failed its MOT because of this (and the rusty brake lines), so I've been costing up the "get a mechanic to do it" / DIY alternatives.

In doing so I came across;

www.toolbay.biz

They can supply the CV clamp tool and spare clamps very cheaply (?10 tool, ?1.88 clamps). Elsewhere a kit (including more banding than I could ever use, with a tool) for about ?30.

If you're replacing your CV boots - might save you a few pennies :wink:

PS -as soon as I mentioned Mark 1 GTI to my friendly mechanic he immediately said he'd have to revise his "guestimate" for the price of refitting new brakelines upwards, as "people are charging loads for Mark 1 parts these days"….hmmmm gold plated ones maybe, but I don't believe that bog standard flexi brake lines for a mark 1 gti are that different from brake lines for…well anything else really. Or do VW specify "50g of unobtainium" in all Mark 1 gti parts? :x
