Caddy Brakes....?

There's a D reg Caddy in the local scrapper, it's too far gon for any body parts but I did notice it had LARGEer calipers on the front.

Are they any good?

Cheers.

Hi there. They should be the same as std Golf. Measure the disks - std are 239mm diameter. If the disk is bigger than that then someone's modded it. If they're 256mm then it may have been treated to the holy grail - Audi caliper upgrade (ie, buy them !). Only larger brake parts on a Caddy are the rear drums, but the stub axles for those won't fit a Golf axle.
BTW - if you're going back to it then have a look at the rear lights and plastic 'corners' and tailgate for me (got a Caddy myself !). Oh - and the black rear arch spats as well !!! (taller on a Caddy). Am in Barrow now and again, so may be worth the extra mileage.
Cheers,
Mark

The pads are about 3" long unlike our 1.1 which are 1"

Hi there. They're just likely to be the 'other' type of std Mk1 calipers. The square pads are found on Teves calipers, and the longer ones on Girling calipers. The greater amount of pad material on the Girling's should give some improvement I guess. You could also buy Mk1 Gti vented disks and Gti pads as a cheap upgrade if you go for the Girling.
Cheers,
Mark.
