Brake servo location

Hi I'm new to mk1's but not vdubs.
I've just got myself a mk1 1.1 n which I'm going to be restoring and putting a bigger engine in.
My question which I feel could be a bit stupid is. How come some cars have the brake servo on the passenger side? ( as mine is on the drivers) is it because of the way the engine sits? Is it a big job o convert? How accessible are parts?

what engine are you putting in? if you can fit them on the drivers side you will have better pedal feel as the cross pull link thing tends to have a bit of play

has yours got a servo.

id think it wouldnt be too bad to convert but may need studs welding on or cutting sections of a bulkhead and welding into yours. if it has the studs on already it would bolt on

Brake servo is on passanger side for clearance issues. Left hand drive cars are said to have better braking due to the fact they don't require the braking leavers for the pedals in the rhd position.

cheers for the replies, I am going to look into what it takes to swap it over / cost as I might just fit a pedal box with a bais unit attched to save space in the bay :D
