Brake pedal spring?

Hello all

The brake pedal does not return 100% when pressed, it does return but not all the way, meaning that the brake light remains on.

I think its the spring but I'm not sure if this is an easy fix or an expensive one :/

Can you even still buythe spring?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Its a 1981 mk1 gl 1.5 auto

the brake lights are run off a pressure switch on the master cylinder normally. if it's on a switch at the pedal then it's a modification.

Thanks for that, Looks like its going to be an issue with the pressure switch on the master cylinder then :/

Sounds tricky, Ill get the Haynes out haha

2 new switches and a bleed of the brakes is normally enough.
having said that just a bleed of the brakes has been known to work as well.

Check what your car has (in terms of brake light switch - pedal mounted or pressure switch(es) on the master cylinder). There doesn't seem to be a clear pattern of what cars had which style of switch.

an 82 tin top should be pressure switch. however paul is right, easy to check, just look at the master cylinder.
