Brake Failure !!

My missus reported that the brakes on the S1 GTi were a bit crap.  I said "well it is a Mk1".

Went for a drive and the pedal just hit the floor with minimal braking and pulling to one side!!

I checked the reservoir and it was empty - no visible signs of leaks around the car.  Not done a full check over but I'm thinking master cylinder failure.

First time I've had such bad brake failure on a MK1 (well any car for that matter!)

Any thoughts?

I've seen occasions where the master cylinder has failed and the fluid has ended up inside the servo !! That might explain why no obvious signs of leaky pipes etc

I would tend to agree with m/cyl failure.  Just to be sure I would refill res and bleed brakes just to make absolutely sure there are no leaks from anywhere first.

It was a failed flexi pipe to one of the front calipers - I could not see it until I got my pressure bleeder on it and could see a fine squirt of fluid.

That was after taking off the master cylinder of course and refitting it!!!

?10 later and it was fixed
