brake disks and pads prices

Is it wise to buy these on the ebay for 30 quids? Let's put it in this way: is nowadays really true that an 80-90 quids kit performs better than the stuff on the ebay?

Discs - yes. Pads - no.

I know it sounds a little contradictory, but my reasoning is this: A brake disc is not a complicated part, its just a (particular shape) lump of metal. So saving a bit of money over regular suppliers isn't such a bad thing. The pads are a little more complicated…when you say "eBay", which brand of pads are you talking about? A reputable known brand through an alternative supplier, or an unheard of one? I've no particular experience myself with the variations of different pads but I'd stick with a name brand, at least.

Yes it can be said "buy cheap buy twice" but I think its a little more complicated and it comes down to the increase in risk/lower lifespan/lower reliability/lower performance versus price. So, if the price was only a little higher for a known brand (of brake disc) I'd go for the name.

After 9 years the discs on my wifes escort had quite a lip on the edge. D ecided to try a pair of ebay specials, great price but less than a year later they are nearly as bad. False economy.

when you consider that genuine discs and pads can be got for not much outlay why bother with cheapo stuff?


Jurid & pagid make decent oe pads,  and Ate discs are the best after market ones i have personally ever used, although my mate swears by Zimmerman discs?

i've always fitted brembo discs both on the car and the bike and never had problems with them. been running the discs on my car now for 4 years with signs of problems. as for pads its pagid fast roads or ebc

The ebay stuff was no brand-no name thing. So I gave up.

What about the Meyle? It seems that they have been VW provider.

I have these two choices here at the local shop:

Brembo for 90 euro

Meyle for 60 euro

Go for the Brembo`s……..they are dearer for a reason :wink:

I got the textar pads for 35 euro and the Meyle discs for 40 euro. I will put them this weekend: will let you know the performance, thanks for the advices,

genuine stuff is very good. pagid fast road pads are superb for exactly that.
