bouncing needle at low revs

HI all
Got really annoying problem.  at low speeds my speedo needle bounces irratically but when i go over about 1700 revs it stays true, have checked its fittted at the back properly and it seems snug in the box , really doing my head in

any ideas or soloutions?

New speedo cable needed, maybe?? But then I'd expect it to happen all of the time. Perhaps see if you can get some cheap replacement clocks/speed on ebay or similar and swap over to see if that sorts it

yah cable most likely. on my 1.6 i noted the outer covering was split in several places, i cleaned out the cable grooves as best i could then resealed with tape.

sprayed a bit of silicone spray lube down the cable and it was smooth as silk after a few miles :)

any kinks in the cable causes that! Switch to digital speedo to eliminate it completely.

its part and parcel of owning a mk1!

thought it would be cable looked at closer and the outer has splitt in a fe places and is at a tight angle so thats not helping.  will replace hopefully cure it.
