Bolt question...

Hi all,

I've recently taken my original wheels off my golf for refurbishment work; I fitted some one-piece BBS's for the time being. I had to buy new bolts as the original VW one's were too short for the BBS wheels.

While my wheels are being made to look shiny and new again I decided it would be worth me cleaning up the old bolts, see picture below.

Now it wasn't until a moment ago that I've noticed that the locking bolts are not rounded, as per the rest of the bolts… is this normal, to me it seems wrong?

Thanks in advance for any replies given to my silly basic question :)

Well if it's wrong, this is how it's been since I bought the car three years ago, not the greatest huh!

They normally advise to only nip up locking bolts anyway, not to the required torque of the other wheel nuts, cos they're not as strong. So it won't have made a significant difference. Basically, the shoulder needs to be the right angle, and shape if there' a curve.

Cheers for the advice Paul, when I get the original wheels back I'm going to have a good look at 'wot-go-on' and ensure I have all the right bolts.

I assumed the wheels and bolts were all original, now I'm confused. I hope the rounded bolts are correct (they are VW ones) and only the locking one is wrong, otherwise things could have been interesting.

Let?s hope I can use the new bolts, bought for the BBS wheels, but its possible these will be too long.

Ho hum times like this you wished you'd just left things how they were.
