BBS - just say no?
I've bought a Mk1 GTI and I wanna get some new shoes but I'm not sure about getting BBS. I KNOW they will look good BUT I was kinda hoping to do something different but I still want split rims. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with splitrims.com or imagewheels.co.uk?
All opinions welcome…

Some refer to them as scene tax as they are so expensive and everyone seems to want them. They do look great!
Have you looked at revolution and compomotive yet? they do some trick old skool rims. I'm a bit obsessive with wheels so will probably end up with a set of boots for each season
Image make some great rims, pretty penny though!
exip are quite cool too! good luck on your quest dude!

Apparently the dishes are also made of chocolate.
Thought about schmidt? TH lines are gorgeous and as you can see they're damn tuff with radinox dishes

And the inner face:
These were new wheels direct from image. Fair enough the majority of sets are probably fine, but for the money they want for a set of wheels I don't think I'd risk it.

Thanks for the advice though, I know they're pricey but just figured I could get exactly what I wanted you know? Something a bit different from BBS or Schmidt but maybe they'd just be the best way to go…
The other problem with BBS on e-bay is they seem to fluctuate in prices for the same models. For instance I've seen some RM 012 for ?650 and others for a grand…hard to judge the going rate when you're an unschooled newbie like myself!

Haven't heard anything about splitrims.com but the billet they use looks meaty as hell and the prices are reasonable - might be worth giving them a pop

But as an alternative, perhaps these

It seems you pay more for the privalage of BBS fitment.
For Shmidt replacement Radinox ?142
For replacement ally rims for BBS your looking at around ?80 a pop for the Radinox equivalent its more like ?180, when you consider the longevity of the Radinox I personally will save the extra cash.
I'm always super careful with my wheels but theres always that one time.

have a look, see how they compare to your current rims width etc, then go out and get the measuring stick and see if they clear suspension etc.. Unforunately can't really kow if they clear calipers / discs as some of the rears of rims can be quite weird. Good as a ballpark to see how much more "poke" you will get (for wheel arch purposes if you are contemplating a severe thrashing with the lowering stick).
