bad rumble turned to awful grinding and makes car lurch

on sunday i drove from redhill to essex to try and swap my hubs over with a mates cause i thought my bearings were gone. unfortunately we were beaten by the lack of a 7mm allen key to get the brakes off and i had to drive home on duff bearings

on the way back the car got very bad and i could feel it lurching at around 45mph. it also dlows down when coasting down a hill.. :S the noise changes with speed and doesn't go away when the clutch is dipped.

can i assume that the bearing has gone completely and i'm now grinding metal against metal?

i'm also flat broke until next month so would be very happy to hear if anyone had some hubs with decent bearings they wouldn't mind selling to me.

i have seen a sezied bearing snap the cv joint off so run it at your own risk.!!
