Auto gearbox help!

Hi, i've got a 1.8  88' clipper with a tired gearbox (3 speed auto), can anyone tell me if the auto box from an 88' 1.6 jetta is the same?

I think so, if its not the same its similar. There's basically 2 variations of auto box for the Mk1 and Mk2s, with slightly different final drive ratios.

I have got an auto box gathering dust in my garage I took it out because I'm putting a 1.9TDI in with a 020 manual box
It worked perfectly it was a 1.5.It is free if you want to collect it,I am in Cornwall.

Thanks for your reply paul-c and thanks to baller for your very generous offer, i have the jetta off the road, it was a great runner until the dreaded carb demons appeared, the rust has set in so i figured may as well break it and use the box for the golf. Just got to find someone sensible to fit it! Might get back to you baller if this box is no good, many thanks.
