Audi 90 calipers on Golf Mk1

Post

I'm about to buy some Audi 90 complete front calipers and holders from a 2.2l for my Mk1. (With 256mm discs)First question; will they bolt on right away?Second; Does anyone know how much space they take up? Like, how much further out from the place on the disc where you mount the wheel, do they go?

is that the old square shape audi? if so yah they should fit. they dont really stick out too much futher than the 239mm, but really the only way to tell is bolt them up. just undo the old carrier and hang the caliper up on the strut without undoing the flexi, then you can trial fit the 256mm setup with your wheels without opening the hydraulic lines :)

Check the hub bolt spacings are 76mm and not 91 before you buy them or they won't bolt straight on.

I tell you this from my own experience - some items get mis-described and are the more common type where the carriers don't fit without adapters.

If you've got 15" wheels they should be fine, although I have got 3mm spacers on mine with brand new discs and pads (once these wear a little bit they'll be fine without spacers…) I'm running 15" P slots.

Thank you both! I was going to buy some from a guy who thought he had the right brakes, but then I asked him to measure the hub bolt spacing, and it was 91mm! Saved me a lot of time and fuel!

OK so this is a good tool for sourcing brake parts http://brakeparts.co.uk/#page=parts&pageSection=BHF&mancode=AUDI&brand=AUDI&model=90&modelversion=90*(87-91)+FWD+PETROL+inc+20V

I've used it before and it used to have dimensions on there but maybe they wised up to it being used as reference material. It should give you enough of an idea of what you want to buy. You may also find that their prices new are almost the same as what people ask for second hand brakes (certainly the case in the supra world where they'll pay £400 for 15-20 year old brake calipers with ropy discs and pads)
