another top mount question ad also wishbone bushes

hi all,

got my new febi top mounts today, already had one strut off so just popped in the garage and put one on and i have a slight rock side to side, is this right or is my new spacer to big?

problem is some muppet who had the car before me or who ever fitted the coilovers had bodged the whole job including using what looks to of been a haner and chisel to move the spring plates and also fitted the standard suspension spring cap on top of the coilover spring plate so just want to check whats right and whats not.

also wishbone bushes, will it make a diffrence to the handling if they are replaced for new ones?

thanks
nathan

Normal , play is taken up when the weight of the car in on the strut , if you leave out the spacer you wreck the top mount in a matter of days .

If you replace wishbones and suspension , you will feel a difference if the old bushes are worn .BUT you must get camber and tracking done on completion

hi,

ok thanks .

yeah i needed to get camber done anyway cause when i got the car the tires where like new on the outside but had the wires comming through on the inside! cant ever of been done when the coilovers where "badly" fitted in the first place.

so you wouldnt recomend filing down the bush slightly just to take out the free play?

thanks

i fitted coilovers and new bushes to the wishbones and fron ARB at christmas, i must say the top mounts, struts and bushes were all completely nakered but while i was doing it i got new wishbones and bottom ball joints from GSF, (less than £40 for the ball joints and wishbones, off the shelf) and the car now handles very nicely, i also had it all laser tracked before doing any real miles and some shiny new pirellis to finish things off!

the results are definitely worth the effort!
