5 speed gearbox conversion help!!

Hi I have 1983 1.5 GL with the original 4 speed box in it, I would like a 5 speed for motorway driving. I have got another 5 speed 020 gear box with the smaller 90mm flange on the diff to match my car, im getting ready for the conversion but what else do I need?
I've read different things some people say that I need to weld a bracket on, some people say I just need different linkage and some have said that I could just bend my original so I'm just confused can anyone give me a step by step of what I need to get before I dive blind into it

I beleive it's a bit of a fiddle.  One of the lads on here called "X" has recently done it I beleive.  Check his thread HERE

Hi thank for your interest but that was on a 1.3 and used a polo gearbox mines a big block engine, anyone got any ideas for me??

hello, would be interested to know how you got on with this as i am looking at doing the same thing, i havn't sourced a box yet though

you'll need pretty much all the linkages inside the bay from a 5 speed mk1 1.5-1.8. if in doubt just get absolutely everything off the donor!

you dont need to weld anything or change the steering rack as all the fixing points for 5 speed are there on a 4 speed 1.5-1.8 mk1. you only need to mess about if its a small block mk1 or an automatic
