5 speed for 1.3. What are my options?

I know this was talked over lots of times, but i'm sick of searching all over the internetz and reading through hundreds of pages..

1. What gearbox would work on my 1.3 jetta (81). As far as i know i can use the one from a 1.3 mk2 golf (4gears+ 5th E) and the mk2 polo gt gearbox. Or am i mistaking?
2. Which one's best?
3. What else should i grab from the donor car (gear linkage, gearbox mounts?)

you can use any 5 speed box from the polo mk3 (and some 6n's) or the small block (1.1 and 1.3,) mk2 golf.  some 1.4 mk3 golf boxes are fine also.

you need the right hand mount from the polo as you need to make a hybrid mount up, i cut the front off the polo mount and bolted the rest to the box, then bolted the 4 speed golf mount to the car and welded the 2 together.

linkage should be fine although it may need minor modification.  you need to swap your selector ball onto the 5speed.

depending on the style of the mount you may need to cut a notch in the rear mount to clear one of the diff bolts on the 5 speed.

grab the wiring plug for the reverse switch, it can then be mated to the golf's wiring.
