280 mm brake upgrade , right ones ???

i have a mk1 series 2 20vt guff,

i bought the conversion brackets on ebay for the front 280mm upgrade,

went to the scrappy earlier and luckily found a mk3 golf 16v with 280 discs, i got all the necessary bits, the only doubt i have is that the discs had 5 studs. i thought it would be ok.

does that make any difference when i get 4 stud 280mm discs ???????? will it all fit togeather ?

yes / no ???

thanks

Not an expert on mk3 golfs (not an expert on anything actually) but i believe the earlier 280 mm calipers are ok compared to the later 288 mm sized discs.

Yeah that's right the later ones change to 288mm with the banjo figment rather than threaded flexi type. The brake setup it totally different too. As the brakes I removed today was right next to a later one . Which was convenient to look at the differences.

I just wanted to know if I had to source my brake setup from a vw with 4 studs

The calipers are 54 Lucas I've read in some forums that this is correct .

Thanks for your reply

yes pre-96 mk3 golf gti, 16v and vr6 280mm calipers and carriers are basically identical to mk2 g60 stuff :)

with a little filing on the hub, allows the adapter bracket to fit sweet.
