Hi all,
My Gearbox on my 1983 GTI DX was knackered so I brought a 1987 mk2 box off a friend changed over the flanges fitted new seals etc.
Problem is the gearbox input shaft does not fit into my clutch plate centre. We have brought a mk2 1987 model clutch and this also does not fit on the input shaft.
The input shaft measures about 20mm across and both clutch plates were about 18mm approx.
Did any of the mk2 gear box's have a bigger 20mm shaft ? if so which clutch do I need to buy ??
Thanks

yup if it wont go in the clutch friction disc, then its a mk2 16v or 2.0 8v mk3 box. look on the flat plate on the bottom of the bellhousing the box code is there. 2y is 16v, mk3 is chd or che or similar
