1st gear problems

to get in to first gear i have to push down slightly as if i am going into reverse and sometimes find it not very good if stoped on a hill!! or i put it into reverse not good if somebody is behind you!! any ideas of how to fix this .thanks for your time  

Sounds like you need to replace the bush & linkage set below the gearstick.
