17" alloy wheels

hi there

I currently have a set of 17" alloy wheels on my '89 cabby. they have an offset of 38 and are 7j. The tyres are 205/40/17.

I've been told that these wheels will fit my golf with no rubbing, however the rear wheels are just slightly touching the springs, i've tried using 10mm and 15mm spacers but this then causes the wheels to sometimes rub the arch.

Are the wheels too big or is the offset wrong. If i were to fit 195/40 tyres would this give me the clearance i need????

thanks
dan

Not sure what the standard offset is. But I reckon ET38 is slightly bigger. If thats true the wheels will be closer to the inside arch, so maybe 10mm spacers and 195/40 tyres will be o.k
But I might well be talkin out my arse. :dontknow: lol

Have found this though

P.S. I know of a green cabby near you with some awesome wheels!
