16v brakes

Hi guys, new to MK1's so maybe a stupid question but I'm breaking a 16v jetta at the moment and wondering if I can swap over the front brake set up to the MK1?

Is it a case of taking the hubs and brake setup from the jetta and putting on the Mk1 or is it more complicated??

Obviously I'm going to be using the servo and m/c from the jetta too

TIA

Andy

Presumably it's the mk2 Jetta in which case nothing just bolts on. You can use the calipers if you use the rare as rocking horse droppings Audi carriers. The uprights will bolt on but cause havoc with the suspension angles. The servo and master cylinder are a good upgrade though.

Cheers mate, yes it's a mk2 jetta. Cool so it's a no go on the brakes, unless I track down these elusive carriers

Presumably if I wanted to convert to rear discs I can just swap the stub axles etc from the jetta too? and if I've read write use scirocco handbrake cables?

Yes, the rears will go straight on with the 16v Scirocco cables. This is what I have. You will want to do something about the rear bias though.

Not really, you need to grind a small section of the axle away, somehow make solid-flexi brackets, make longer solid brake lines, and ideally tabs to hold the handbrake cable, etc too. It does fit but it doesn't go "straight on".

It's not the hardest brake conversion I've ever done, try fitting discs to a car that never had them like an Escort or a Manta. You don't need to make any brackets, just make some longer braided hoses and go from the shell straight to the caliper. A couple of large tiwraps on each side hold the cables in place. As for the bit that needs to be removed from the axle, a few mins filing and it's done.

Cheers guys, I'm pretty handy with most things so it doesn't sound too daunting. Where would I get longer braided hoses made up?

Buy the fittings and a length of hose from Rally Design and make them to suit you.
