My other cars a UR quattro

Post

I thought I had started a thread about my '85 quattro but here is a new one as I cannot find it.
Basically I have been trying to break the world record for the longest engine swap and general make it go faster project. Coming in now at about 8 years.
My old girl started out as a very nice WR engined quattro. That's 5cylinders and 10 valves with a turbo. Lots of lag but huge fun if you drive it properly and always kept her on the boil. Well she did shows, events and the NEC next to works quattros and a sport.
Then with an unhealthy smoking habit I decided to pop in a 20v 3b engine from a donor s2… This also meant I had the gearbox, diff and brakes swapped over.
Due to ill health, dodgy electricians and general pain in getting some parts it's still not finished.
The paint has suffered and is now Tornado Pink but the end is in sight.
Last year it only failed its mot on minor things like brake lights sticking, bulbs and washer bottle inoperable. I'm now awaiting my good buddy Chris to build me some new fuel lines and finish a few new connections. I'm sourcing bits and have to get some seat bases made for my two old school Recaros that I'm popping up front. The engine is a sweet heart and with some bits and pieces is a really beast. Once that's done I'm hoping to get her repainted this year and get back onto Tarmac. That's as long as my health doesn't go down hill again as I've a bunch of troubles with the ticker and things.
Pics to follow when I work that out..

Welcome back Chef, not seen you about here for a long time

You did have a thread up about this before, I remember seeing it so you're not going mad! Look forward to seeing it finished and hope you stay well ;)

Hey! Long time and all that H.A.!
Yeah I thought I had… May be even further back than I thought! :-0
Health wise… I'm trying to keep it together.. On some really quite awful tablets at the moment. But still have my licence… So that's all good. Hoping to have some fuel lines in in a week or three… Then last few bits to rectify. Like the speedo and oil temp.
Quote for paint is pending so it's possible it could be back on the road this year…
Hope all is well with you guys too.

It must have been a good few years ago, no wonder you couldn't find the original thread!

Glad you got your license still and sticking with it, helps to keep you going when you have a project to focus on I think. Can't be easy though, aren't parts tough to come by now for a Quattro?

All is good here - I'm actually stuck in to my resto at long last, trying to get the MK1 finished for the 10th anniversary this year

Hi. Yes I have a few more pictures. I hopefully will have a day on her this month so will take some up to date one.
The real action will be the painting…

That was a good find. :-)
I have a few more photos and rather annoyingly I lost loads when my old dell c600 packed up. I need to buy an old working one and switch hard drives..
I had a chat last week with the guy who runs the paint shop where she's being kept while we get on with the new fuel lines and last of the wiring. Price should be coming my way any day now.. Hopefully I may have enough pennies to get some fresh paint on and have some use this year? Mind you I said that in 2008!

That's a pic from about twelve months ago. She's a good strong runner. Just needs some final tidying and fuel lines before paint and should be good for the MOT…
I need to make a heat shield for the air filter/ turbo so I can keep the heat away from the intake. Fit my Sport Quattro steering wheel and get the door cards retrimmed etc but it's all so close…
