I have a feeling this project is going to take most of my time and steal whatever cash is leftover from the mk1. It's been sitting in the lock up since 1988 alongside the mk1 rusting away. It's all complete, original M30 big six engine with twin Zeniths and 4spd manual. Body is in pretty bad shape, majority of the work needed is in the front bulkhead and wings, as well as the floor which will be a chalenge for me as i've never done double skinned bodywork before! Thankfully the more expensive trim pieces are ok (rear lights are over £800 each from Germany!!). I finished fitting up the electronic ignition system to it as that was hanging off and also managed to source an e12 528i clyinder head/manifolds if I wish to convert it to injection. More likely to just drop in a full 635CSi engine or similiar although that is a long way off.
This is when I first started unearthing all the gubbins that was surrounding it.
Wing was cut off to get a better view
Car had been painted many times in the 13 or so years it was on the road
Some pretty bad bubbling on the wing, feels pretty rotten under there!
With the flash off you can see it better
Slightly better on the rear, this should be pretty simple to cut out and replace
Sunroof was a rare optional extra, not sure whether to keep it or not.
Simple but well thought out interior, very deutsch und 70s ja? Electric windows all round and power steering too!
And as it sits now Just been busy clearing up the garage so I can bring it over and have it parked with the mk1, then pop up to Norfolk and start buying panels.

I saw a restored one of these in the same colour a couple of weeks ago and it looked superb.
Give it a go, you've nothing to lose, apart from time, cash, any sort of life you may have been planning……mmmmmmm

I'll have it done by this weekend Andy As for the colour, i'm really not a fan of the Sienna Brown metallic, you don't see many E9's in that colour for a reason….it's ugly imo and doesn't suit the car at all! A fullbare metal inside and out respray will be on the cards so a colour change makes sense. I could keep it in an original E9 colour……
…such as Verona Red
or Chamonix
Although it'll be a while till it looks like either of those (CSL airdam will have to be going on, looks yummy)

Cover is off, found some cool stuff in the boot like an early 80s sew on M power badge and some small spares.
You can make out a sneaky mk1 in the background of this
However the garage has started to leak AGAIN due to the absolute retards on each side of the garage. House next door cut the electricity off as the meter is in their basement and their overgrown ivy was starting to rip up the felt on the roof last time and was left in their garden It's all grown back again and there is a big puddle behind the BMW so need to get it moved sharpish! mk1 is getting moved next week, the white escort in front of it has no shocks or springs and is on axle stands so getting that to the scrappy will be fun.
The work never ends

Fresh battery stuck on…
Signs of life!
It's aliiiiiiiive!!
27 years in the garage having never turned over, after putting some fuel in the carbs it started and idled like the day it came out of the Karmann factory. Clutch has seized though so the cylinder will have to come out before she moves under her own steam….but it lives
Happy Turk is happy. Now to start siphoning off mk1 funds to make this happen.

Nice! A chap about four doors down from me has just picked one up in bright metallic green. Looks magnificent and puts my poor old golf to shame.

Thanks guys! Will definitely keep the thread updated. Signed up to the E9 forum and there's quite a few friendly E9 owners near me. I also got some information from BMW, vehicle was manufactured December 21st 1973, and delivered to BMW Concessionaires GB Ltd. February 8th 1974. It was then registered on the road late December 1974.
