v5 mk1 golf project

Post

the start!

Hi guys!!

So this is the start of the project!!
Getting the golf? can cross that off the list!! Got a mk1 with a v5 conversion!
Now the hard part! All the work that needs doing!! From some of the pictures it looks like a tidy car!! Unfortunately this isn't the case, there is
a tone of work that needs doing! The car was used for track days before i got it! So a whole new interior will need to be sourced and fitted
as most of the car has been stripped back! Also I'm pretty sure the rear engine mount has snapped, radiator is leaking, and the fuel pump
that's been moved inside is making a rather loud wine! so they'll be first to fix! Then loads of smaller stuff which I'm sure ill cover at a later date!!

SO!! Here's the car!!

So let me know what you guys think!!! Any ideas and advice would be great!!!

Hi

Very nice car to start with. Would suggest trawling the classifieds and ebay for parts. Maybe make a list of what you need.

Good luck.

This is going to be an interesting project Alex. What are your plans for it?

Yeah I've been lookin all over! Got loads of ideas, all black leather interior with porsche seats, get the outside looking good, possibly all black trims, red grill, a nice sound system, don't worry nothing over the top just some nicely hidden speakers. The bonnet locks have to go, they rattle like hell!!!! Also managed to get a front lower splitter for £14 on eBay, will get the mechanics sorted first before all the trims and interior is done though

is it the 150 or 170bhp engine? not a fan of the V5 personally but should be something a little different

It's the 150, I would rather an r32 engine to be honest but they arnt exactly cheap to get hold of, this one still goes fast enough for me! Got it booked in to carbonmotive this weekend to get checked over! Engine mount needs fixing!

So i started to strip out the back of the car today, got the poor excuse of a boot build out, was just old damp wood stapled together with carpet badly glued around it!
along with two explod speakers, two landrover speakers, and a not so great sub, previous owner clearly wasnt a perfectionist! any way!! couple pictures 1959467_10201233714036532_1533735989_n.jpg 1932344_10201261162522727_1770459867_n.jpg 1932454_10201261162402724_1027638508_n.jpg

so ive managed to get the whole interior out and found some shoddy work! :ocf_emoticons__BangHead: Along the side of the footwell leading up to the door sills, looks as if some one has simply covered some holes with unwelded metal and some sort of mastic, the dash seems to be s1, the centre console is s2, the rear lights have been converted from s2 to s1 which to be honest doesnt look bad from the outside, inside a little messy. Pulled the boot side panels off to find some not so brilliantly welded new wheel arches, again don't look bad from the outside, need to find an s1 centre console! and if any one knows what goes under the s1 dash to cover the fuse box and wires please let me know?????? Both sides that is?? Thinking about making something to cover it all mysef!!

Thanks guys

There is a carpet panel if you like that covers both under dash areas and a small board shelf on the passenger side

Think i'll replicate mine from sheet ally

I thought about doing that, I can design, lazer them out and fold them up at work, just need to find out the measurements and how to mount them then maybe cover them in leather, also managed to get the s1 centre console sorted out! Think porsche seats are next

How hard was that shelf to find? Can it be copied or made out of sheet metal? Would love a template of the carpet mate! Il defo keep my eyes out!

the shelf can be replicated easily enough, it's basically thin hardboard with a rolled edge and rivited together.

was thinking sheet ally 2mm and flocked

I just need something to copy or some drawings to work off and I can have it made in no time, flocked would be nice!! Easier than covering in vinyl anyway, I just don't like all the wires hanging out

just had a little look in the footwell and I seem to be gathering small puddles, think the sound deadening against the inner firewall is damp as well, not sure what's causing it or where the water is coming from, all I know is its not a good sign and I don't like it

any one know what could be causing this???
