From MK2 to MK1
Firstly, i'm going to admit, I'm awful at updating things like this.. so don't expecting a 20 page long thread So I've been driving for a little over 3 years now (time flys!), and in that time I've owned a Black MK2 1.6 Driver for 2 years, which I absolutely loved. I brought her completely standard and tidied her up a little, dropped her and put different wheels on. I pretty much left it at that, because I had had my eyes set on a MK1 GTi the moment i could afford the insurance!
When I turned 19 I thought i'd try seeing how much it would cost for me to insure a GTi and i couldnt believe how much cheaper it was compared to when i first looked! I instantly started trawling through sites looking for one that caught my eye, but I was very reserved, and didn't jump on the first one I found.
A couple of months later, I was scrolling through Instagram (follow me if you have it @ MK1_JJ) and my eyes were drawn to a beautiful red MK1. I followed the guys page, and literally the next day, he put it up for sale! I contacted him, traveled up a few hours to see it, and fell in love!
When I arrived, James had spent hours detailing it, and my god, it was beautiful, even my friend (who isn't really into the older car scene) was amazed. James took us out in it for a little spin and the sound just captured me! I knew this was the one! (My friend later admitted he would have brought it if i had decided not too)
Since then, I have spent a lot of time and money in getting her running like a dream. I already have a very long list of parts that have been replaced, but i don't mind. I genuinely love driving her, and spend so much money on fuel each week, just aimlessly driving I have lowered her a little more, and put some slightly wider wheels on. I love how she sits, and she grips round corners so well! I'm dreading the day I have to buy a 'sensible' car She won Best Golf at a local show, Dubbing in Dorset, a few months back too! Was super stoked on this!
(These are the only good pictures i can find on my laptop at the moment, and annoyingly she's dirty (she isn't usually )
Future plans are to get the bodywork sorted out, along with a full respray, new headlining, and rewire. Then i'll move onto the engine bay, getting the block really clean and making her much more presentable to look at in that respect. But until then, I'm really happy with her!
Thanks for reading!
JJ

lovely looking golf. kinda wish id have gotten a red one instead off black.
My MK2 was a nightmare to clean, and any kind of water or dirt marks would show up so clearly! But it is a very nice colour, and works so well with any other combination!

It's had 22 owners since new, so the chances are it's been someones on here! Would be good to find out the history.
