Build thread, ideas, dos and donts
So everyone, im planning on picking up an (rabbit) mk1 this weekend. It hit a tree head on, i am planning on gutting it and tossing everything but the body and some other vitals. I have an 98 chevy s10 that i plan on putting the body on. At that point im going to shorten the frame and it will be wide with larger wheels. I plan on keeping the 2.2l in until i can afford and plan out putting a chevy 350 v8.
Im slightly insane haha but what are you guys' opinions?

I remember back in I think 1980 that some one created a wider mk1 with Porsche 928 running gear, but that was made wider by cutting down the middle and then adding an extra centre piece. Wonder if it still exists?

Let it begin! pushed this thing into the garage and teardown starts today, i think i may keep the s10 engine and get a ton of power out of if and go more of a race/rally type with a ratty theme
Still gotta sell the diesel engine out of it though.

Never been a fan of the 350. I'd choose a 302 or 351 Windsor. More torquey and nicer to work on.

S10 is just about ready to be just a frame with drivetrain, and rabbit is reakd to have the floor cut out to go on the s10 frame

So i have decided to go differently on the project. I am making a 3 link rearend and an entire front end. Its still going to end up rather rowdy, but i am at a loss for engine. I have decided against a v8 i have a rat rod with a 302 and the thing is a pig on gas. I am thinking of something with lower displacement that could produce a silly amount of power tuned and turboed. I was considering rotary or boxer but i want to avoid needing a cpu or harness at all. The only thing that i can think of thats rwd stick that would fit the bill brings me back to an older v8 because they are painfully simple, does anyone have any other ideas?
