The 5 year wait............

Post

Spotted this 5 years ago at a car show and just loved the fact it was a GTI Engineering car - in 1982 at the age of 18 it was way way beyond my means - but always loved the idea of getting an original GTI conversion - as they were the start of it all. I remember seeing my first one just outside New Cross Gate station .

I was close to getting the car it in 2012 - but the owner was very attached - so I ended up getting a Rivage. But I kept in touch with the owner and 5 years later I now have the car - it was a long wait…………

Original Paint and Interior and very well cared for.  I have given it a bit of a clean and Dynax'd all underneath and gently cleaned the engine bay. The engine bay still shows the  original Waxoyl  which is all black now and  the block is in the trademark GTI Engineering Blue.

Plan to put a few miles on it this year and blow the cobwebs off -  its not been used much these last few years. Any more Mk1 GTI conversions owners out there?

Beautiful.

I have seen a few post up with GTI engineering, Turbo Technics, BR Motorsport and TSR. Conversions but not many. What a great find and worth the wait.

Wow that's a lovely find - well worth the wait!

It looks in great condition, the engine bay is very tidy. How many miles are on it?

Nice purchase! Good to see another GTI Engineering car surface.

The motor looks in great condition especially for original paint too. Looks like you have extensive history too which is always a bonus to have.

There's a GTI Engineering group on Facebook that's useful if you ever need any info on the conversions. There's also some meets that take place too if you're interested.

What switch do you have under the hazard switch? Is it a fader for the stereo speakers? I've never seen that before

Thanks for the comments guys its never been messed/touched with. Yes it has a fader switch - which all works just fine.

The car spent about the first 20 years in Jersey - then bought over to the UK about 15 years by mature (now retired) gentleman I got if from.

The mileage is 80K so not too high - it has age "patina" which i will just preserve as thats the way I like my cars -the fact that its stayed original for 35 years works for me.

Thanks for the info re1900 - so I need to now join facebook ummmm …….. I have resisted for years - much to my family and friends amusement.

cheers
