Welcome to the forum. That looks very tidy, Lhasa is a great colour

just installed new fuel lines today and got it running which was a relief as never got to hear it running when i bought it. i thought it was just suspension to sort out and a couple little jobs here and there but after a good poke about theres rot under the windscreen and behind the filler cap :(

Nice car mate, love the reg plate. 'Let me Ride' would be an apt song to play in that car!

Thanks guys, heres a couple pictures after a good poke about. was told there was no rot, the arches were repaired and car was resprayed recently so was chuffed to bits. wish i knew the places to look when i viewed the car as ive noticed there rot along the bottom of the windscreen

And when i removed the fuel filler pipe

When i poked up a screw driver a big lump of black silicon fell out!!

Cant weld for toffee but it looks like im gonna be learning quick!! Also a lump of rust just under the rear o/s seat belt :(

Looks very nice on the outside man but I've got areas the same on mine, she was supposedly repainted as well .. why you wouldn't bother to fix 100% of the rust before the repaint I don't know!!

Good luck bro! Im in the same boat about not being able to weld but im tempted to try and have a bash! whats the worst that can happen

I know! the guy was telling me he put in a repair panel in the bulkhead where the clutch cable comes through, so why didn't you repair the rest of the bulkhead before paint! away to take the dash out and the windscreen and take it from there.

Gonna price up a little welder, theres only one way to learn steveey!

Cheers Melteddrummer, funny you should say, i was reading through your thread last night and seen the tubs at the back, your a much braver man than me!

Im really not sure how to repair the inner wing around the filler cap to be honest! the inner wing seems solid enough apart from round the filler cap.

I'm afraid it's a tub out job mate  O_o If your inner tub is ok,  you can split the tub in half and buy just the inner arch panel, or you can wait till the end of September and VW Heritage should have some whole tubs back in stock again.

Inner arch panel

Hope this helps.

Best bet is probably to try and find someone cutting a shell up to cut it out for you mate. They do come up on here from time to time.

Put a post up in  the parts wanted section and look in the breaking a car section for someone cutting a shell up!
