paint code help

hi so i got this mk1 4 door diesel the service book and vin sticker have a the paint code y1y1 on it for my understanding that is not a paint code but a the dealer order code for the color all the dealers here have no idea how to find the right paint code so i need help please il try adding some pics mean while my profile pic is the car im on about let me know what you think thanks. 

looks a bit like slate grey metallic LE6U, could be wrong tho. what year is it?

gonna pay a visit to some of the older body shops see if anyone has some old paint chips i can look at at least i got slate gray as a starting point 

If you can, take it or a pannel to a paint shop & they will be able to use a spectrophotometer to get you a colour match/ ddetetmine the colour.
