My new s1 long termer

Post

finally back in a mk1

After having to sell my last s2 mk1 back when the economy dropped its guts i swore i would get myself another again when things got better, so after work being stable enough for another while I've been looking for a decent s1 that wasn't massively overpriced or a total pile of rust that was still overpriced, so up stepped a little post last week on another forum i frequent, the add was pretty vague but it looked more than worth a look, I'm only in Edinburgh so a little spin up the road to check the car out in Aberdeen was done on friday night and ended up bringing the old girl back down the road with me.

story as it appears so far is its a 79 ls 1.5 3 door 130k  on the original engine which was last ran 2 years ago and I'm pretty confident it should run again with a refresh on all the consumables, i love the sunroof which the last owner wasn't keen on but it makes it different in my view. The history on it is great now that I've managed to get a sift through it, I've got every mot from new and also every yearly service record from new which is bloody extensive its had 3 previous owner the second one having owned it for 31 years going by my calculations.

Bad areas so far I've found that need attention are passenger sill replacing 2 patches on the inner rear arches a new front panel and possibly a couple of rear arches depending what they clean up like, interior is in great condition and not to molested either.

plan is to run it slightly tatty for a while until funds allow for a full spray and real sorting out.

hope you like.

and then onto some slightly more important stuff

seems someone thought catty was an excellent path for a leaking sump :ocf_emoticons__BangHead:

old for new!,   just baffles me why someone would spend the time and money to do something so cowboy style when a brand new sump has probably cost me the same cash as the tub of catty

Though it was best to get a good look into what was going to be needed for the bodywork repairs,

inner wing and sill seems to be the worst so far

and the rear inner arches same on both sides

Nice little motor you've got there, can't beat an S1!

Shame about the bodywork, but seen far forse in my time so should be a fairly easy job for any bodyshop.

Just goes to show though what can be hiding beneath what looks like a pretty sound car.. Thats why I could never part with mine lol, despite seeing lots of other "finished" cars up for sale for less that what im spending on my re-spray.. You just never know lol.. At least when it's done you can be safe in the knowledge that you've got a keeper that you know is sound for a good few more years!!

Wanted: Front Bumper, DESPERATELY NEED A DRIVERS WING!

to be honest I'm not too fazed by the bad areas I've got a very competent classic mini restorer as a friend and the shells I've seen him bring back to life comforts me that this is a walk in the park for him.

i hope lol:lol:
