Decided to put a v8 in, what would be the best engine and would it be possible to have the 4wd???
Hi all, decided I'm gonna put a v8 in my golf as I love v8 and I love mk1 golf, so whynot combine the two??? just want to get some information, maybe from people that have done one??? Want too know how much work would be involved, whether it's gonna be astronomical in costs, ( I'll be doing as much of the work myself as I can) but mainly what would be the best engine to have in it and whether I could have 4wd or not???

I liked the idea of the w8 and after looking at some vids on YouTube, it's definetely the way I'm gonna go, just want too know now, how hard is it gonna be to get the 4.0l engine in the front of the golf or am I gonna have to put it in the back???

I think you need to be realistic, if the engine goes in the back what drivetrain can you use, even putting a v8 with 4wd transmission in the front is going to be tight on space, I would suggest v8 in front with rear wheel drive only or and its been done, r32 conversion with 4 wheel drive. At least you have a chance of actually finishing the project then.

Surely it defeats the object of having a light weight car like a MK1. Wouldn't a heavily modded lighter engine like a g60 or 20v be better? RWD conversion on one of those or a 2.0l 9a turbo?
