Mk1 1.8 GTi 1983. Helios blue tintop. Honest valuations appreciated... (seen better days)

Need help valuing a mk1 that has seen better days... BBS wheels, other spec but stood up a long time.

Hi everyone, Apologies for introducing myself with a request, but I have had the following car stood up for some years now (originally just looking after for a friend) and the time has come to move her along. She's seen significantly better days and a friend mechanic has offered to take her off my hands, I just wanted to get some honest opinions of value (if any) in the state that it's in... I imagine scrapping a Mk1 is rarely approved of on here and I don't want to be the guy that kills one. I'd love for her to get fixed up somehow. Anyway:Some spec:Koni Top Adjustables with poly front bump stops, ralley rears. Bonrath front top mounts.  All poly bushed.Brakes - 16V 22m master cylinder and servo. ( I am curious to find out the model of these as I've not seen them before)

Hi and welcome to the club.

Could you post up some pictures of the car?
As many as possible from inside and out, engine bay and even underneath .

Show us the good, the bad and the ugly.

What you have they maybe more valuable then you think!  :o

So don't be in a hurry to give it away just yet.

We're an honest club and over the next few days as members read this once we've seen the car you'll get a fair figure of what it could sell for.

They are (the car) 'Rare' but the word is far to often used when it shouldn't be but in the case it's correct!

Hi Mike

Thanks very much for the reply! I have a load of photos, but I didn't have the option to upload with my original post.
The option is there now but I'm having formatting problems with the forum (maybe Mac issues?). My posts are coming out weird, anyway…

Cheers
J

Haha. The ones where the grass is cut and then the car moves forward were a couple of weeks ago. The others a few months back.

J be honest with us which might save you a lot of time.
What's the mechanic willing to pay you for the car?

You can send me a Private Message known as a PM if you prefer or just say nothing, I don't mind but I won't be back on line today!

Can't help much with the valuation, but it certain,y isn't something to be given away. Never seen a Mk1 just so badly on the top rear wing though.  Helios Blue would indicate it's a Campaign, but can't make out if it has a sunroof or not, if it doesn't then likely to be a personal import, probably by someone in the forces at the time.
The Campaign leather steering wheel looks like it's missing though.

I can answer your question on the wheels though, they are BBS RO's not seen on a Golf before, but plenty on Mk2 Sciroccos and in smaller size  on Polo's

J I got your PM.

It's worth far more than that even though we can't see how bad the rust is underneath etc.

Not that it should happen but if you have the time and patience you'll get far more than that by selling the parts.

My best advice if your not in a hurry is to get it on a car ramp and have a good look underneath, make photos and see what others say.

But don't trust me I'm an ex VW car salesman!

Thanks Richard

Especially helpful with the BBS wheels - always wondered where they were from

It's obviously had a lot of changes over the course of time, (all before me and the friend I got it from). It does have a sunroof, though I suspect that's a whole kettle of fish in itself (rust etc). It was registered in Germany (7 days before I was born - part of the reason I've always been attached to it and dreamt of doing it up).

Cheers

PS - the amount I'm offered is essentially giving it away

Don't give it away  :ocf_emoticons__eusa_hand:

You have potential something special there so if you don't want to restore it and have a holiday for two somewhere like the Bahamas for two weeks or longer.

You clean it up, sell it and stay at a top hotel in Vienna, Austria for a few days!

Oh and yes I live here.

Right guys, I have this car with me now .

It's going to get a full strip down and rebuild.

I've sold the white cabby to make space for this in the garage

I've put this one at the front of the que so the oettinger mk1 and the g60 cabby will be on the back burner for a while

I will be pinging up a build thread as soon as it's fully stripped and on the rollover jig .

Wish me luck
