Had this a month now, but so busy with other things I haven't done much, Some things I have done,
Lifted the carpets and removed the sodden wet underlay.    Fitted some wheels / tyres I happened to have, nothing special but the size (7 x 16) I wanted and the correct et.  Temporary fitted a pattern grill without the spot lights, it will be fitted with the red trim / badges and staying.  For some reason its now stopped turning over and hence wont start, not a problem as I intend to do an engine conversion anyway.

That looks a tidy example. A genuine Campaign?

Have you found the water leak or was the underlay just wet from general sitting around?

Yeah I think its a genuine campaign, but that's not why I bought it.  Looks nicer in the photo than in the flesh, needs a bit of attention to a couple of areas, so hopefully its mostly original paint and there are no nasty surprises any where. Not sure where the water was getting in, stored in my garage now, was out in the open when viewed.

Well enjoy it!

What engine conversion are you going for? 20VT?

Well a bit of a quandary really, I like the look of an ABF on jenveys, but this puts a limit on power available,  I am considering the 20vt but I dislike the pipes all over the engine bay, but I want to exceed 200bhp,

Cheers Hugh.

As I said previously, nicer in the photo than in the flesh, but its not bad, yeah I had to get a mars red one.  Annoying thing is the drivers red stripe seat is a bit worn and only last year I sold some very nice red stripe seats thinking that mk1 prices meant that I wouldn't be able to get another.

Right my aim is to do an ABF conversion, pretty easy and not too expensive, until you start wanting the big bhp numbers,  so I bought this

No its not an ABF,   its an AUQ,  180  bhp and potentially 225 ish according to the qpeng website.  So now it wont be running this year. What ever are all those pipes for?, hope I can lose most of them.

After this I was unsure about going 20 vt as I have no experience with turbo engines and all the thingys over the engine worried me. I even advertised the engine for sale on here for about a day.  However with help and encouragement from ADZ25 I was persuaded to carry on. (poor photo as its pouring so took it in my cramped/dark garage) So engine with lots of pipework removed and engine mount fitted , also new sump that was unexpectedly required.

I then took a look at the qpeng downpipe, couldn't afford that, so I bought these, somewhat cheaper but with only a mig and no access to a tig it wont be pretty, but its under the car so not too bothered.

Good to see your keeping going with this 😊

Only bit of that exhaust i would worry about getting TIG'd would be the flange, you dont want to warp it😉

You may need to trim more of the lower cambelt cover than you think too due to the chassis mount.  Had to pull my engine again to trim a bit more when i first installed it, yours may be enough though, worth a check!

Getting your head around what pipework you dont need?

Before I weld the flange fully I will bolt it to a thick piece of steel and let it cool before I remove it. Yeah I suspect the cover will need more trimming, its actually cracked and I need to get another one.  Slowly getting my head around the p/work, am hoping to take another look at yours before too long if that's ok.

Good plan on welding the flange 👍

Yes you can take a look anytime! Now winters here (almost) am thinking about ripping the turbo out and putting the k03s in.  Just got to figure out what to do about management.  Was contemplating the mbe 992, its been reduced on tge qpeng website…. but not sure and waiting on an improvement on cash flow lol 😃

Thats a nice looking car ! Will be great when its running, dont forget to upgrade the brakes !! Is that the car the engine I collected from you came from ? My offer of a helping hand still stands if you need it !

Post

Yes it came from that car, already have most of the uprated brakes I will need, thanks for the offer but I prefer to work on my own, not very sociable really.

I'm going ABF on jenvey ITB's love the sound of normally aspirated and I'd say 200hp in a mk1 would be more than enough.
