Hi
Finally getting around to rebuilding my long stored RE2000 GTI ENGINEERING engine. The plan has gone from a repaint, to a complete rebuild, all to original spec and schrick components. May be a little slow but the parts bought and work done so far:
Head:
Sonically cleaned
Schrick 276 Cam
Scrick Cam pulley
Schrick springs, collets and headers
Valves cleaned
Rocker cover and internal filter cleaned (git of a job)
Bottom end:
Cleaned
All bearing, rings, nuts, bolts replaced and the bores cleaned and honed.
Wingate tray used along with the Schrick sump.

Good work! on an iconic engine conversion.
Had an RE 1900 billions of years ago in a D reg Gti. Thrashed by me and the previous owner for 160k it was brilliant. Eventually, the car was crashed and rolled and destroyed (not by me) and despite running upside down for a short while, then laying forgotten for years in a shed, when I gave it to a friends Son for his Golf and he took the head off it was all as new and is still strongly going to this day.
What power should it put out?
If you ever decide to sell it-let me know!
Marcus.

Hi
The chap that cleaned and preped the engine said it was in great shape, it was me that decided to go the whole refurb with it.
Power is hopefully arounf the 150 bhp mark and really interested to see how close it gets!
Not planning to sell but would let you know if i did.

Nice work.

Hi
I bought the Cam and Pulley from Gladen-motor sport in Germany. Cam is 316 euros at the moment, owners good to deal with, speaks english, but is a little bonkers! The rocker cover is the first one I've ever seen in this style and was looking for 3 years for one. It popped up on ebay and i bought it within the hour of it posting. You can get ones without the breather and throttle cable holder as they are for a carb engine.

Engine looks great, reminds me of a mk1 8v i had, polished and ported, gas flowed head with a reprofiled cam, it was simply exhilarating to drive, I still miss it to this day. I hope you enjoy the same pleasure with yours

Fantastic job, that engine looks the dogs GoNads even to a 'Keep it original' purist like myself! 😂👍🏼

Well a Little Update. A friend thats a mechanic and with a double and a half garage has finished his fiesta XR2 (I've let him off it not being a VW) and offered me his garage to use. So its gone from the engine and upper shell to now include the underneath. towing the car was a challenge!! Will update the pics as i go through

Update…..completely stripped the underneath without a roster….do not do it like this, its horrific on the arms!!
Underside stripped to bare metal with all rust removed.
Sprayed with Epoxy primer.
Stone chipped.
Finishing the arches at the moment.
Also all the underside metal is being sandblasted and powder coated.
All bushes are being replaced as well……for reasons the pictures explain. Can not wait to feel how it rides with new bushes across the whole car!!
