golf mk1 cabrio, i'm keeping this one standard...

picked this little beauty up during my last break. got an unregistered vehicle permit and drove it back to brissy from ipswich. here are the photos the previous owner sent me as we organised the sale…

got it back and gave it a quick scrub up before i start trying to fix the broken bits…





hoping i get something looking like this by the time i'm finished, the car looks pretty good too…



thought i'd try a filter for starters…

if anyone is selling carbrio bits that are small enough to post to australia i'm as keen as mustard so give me a shout please…

i have a feeling they were taken quite some time before i went to pick it up…

i quite like this look, i have more chance of crapping on the moon then finding a vortex roof rack though…

new plate arrived, it's latin for I speed…

i'm not sure i'll be speeding anywhere in this thing. not until the after the engine swap…

the vast parts collection has started and i suspect a lot more to come…

a new nob and front seat runners…



a very dirty but not worn passenger seat to transfer the covers and foam over to the worn drivers seat…



and another rear bench as theres a mark on the original one…

i arrived back home at the start of my last break to see a few parts that hard turned up in the mail…



unfortunately i had ordered the wrong rotor arm, i'm having a nightmare with this car as i have checked part numbers for year etc and the wrong parts still show up…



at least the air filter was a fit…



and i think the new plugs will be an improvement too…



decided to flush the engine and drop the old sludge out, it was as black as the ace of spades…



the fuel filter didn't fit as it came with barbed outlet / inlet instead of the bolted connection that i need…



i got the irrits with the motor and moved on to the interior for a while…

then gave the gear shaft some love…



after…



and fitted some new rubbers…



after…

after giving the engine some love i decided to set about the body work. i removed the busted front arch spat thinking that it would be an easy fix to install a new one…



then i found this little joy…



so i'll be looking for a new wing too. i also had another part to return after the guys sent me a fuel filler cap which had threads instead of the two tabs i need…



i moved on from body work to give the brakes a touch up…



fortunately i received the correct size discs and braided lines…



unfortunately i received the incorrect size pads…



a little bit too chunky and would't fit even with the callipers wound all the way back…



i installed new fluid and was going to replace the bleed nipples, the store decided to send a mismatched pair for some reason only known to them..



finally i thought i'd try the plate on for size, i'm actually wondering if the euro size might have been a better choice. all in all it's not going great so far…

Welcome to the club first of all! 

The title of this post this morning at 05:11am was something like "golf mk1 cabrio, i'm keeping this one standard…"

Hours later an engine swop!  

I look forward to seeing it not change in the future, just pulling your leg mate!

no probs mate, i said it as a bit of a joke too although i may go with a 20vt swap once i have the rest of the car how i want it…

well the mods have already started, i thought these are an improvement over the standard rims…



these photos are what made me decide to go with the alfa wheels, i thought they looked similar…



mine should look acceptable with a fresh lick of paint and lacquer…
