Hello fellow Mk1'ers
I've finally got around to start in my opinion the best engine for a mk1 Golf.
Now off to John Mitchell Racing which is situated in Littlehampton West Sussex and is VW/AUDI specialist
Now I've been collecting some parts before the build starts.
2.0L 16v 9A engine
KR Cams
Polished and ported head
Blue printed
HRT Inlet manifold
CTN 02A gearbox
Peliquin slip diff
Stage four G60 supercharger
Schrick race sump
Alloy VW Polo radiator
Kenlowe fan
HRT intercooler
G60 chipped ECU and G60 loom
All going in my pride and joy

Lovely car, just out of interest what engine do you have in there at the moment…?

Cheers Gerry
I'm running an mk2 GTI 1.8 8v
Which is for sale now.
To be honest it should be putting out 260bhp or more.
Stage 4 supercharger
And chipped ECU.. Won't really know numbers till it's finished..

Cool, because the BBM one is useless because it is designed for 92RON fuel - found that out the hard way !!
Will be interested to see how she runs as I have not heard of anyone that manages to get Digifant to perform really well with these engines. There always seems to be a compromise.
The injector resolution is not fine enough to manage 42lb injectors and causes the closed loop lambda control to over reach and under reach - Jabba disabled that on mine, but it was then a pig on fuel.
I had two setup sessions and decided that the money would be better spent on a modern ECU that I could tinker with and have the ability to switch maps, add traction control (which I still have not done yet) etc.

Its a pity to acknowledge the expense and work also all the possible ingenuity in this build and only to be restricted by a DF1 ECU, do you have any alternative plans to use an ecu with much more tuning potential??

Im building a 16vg60 at the moment which is nearly finished. Its been a challenge and a very expensive one at that but hopefully all worth it! I understand now why there are no two 16vg60 engines exactly the same as there are so many choices to make.
Just out of interest what did mean by a 9a block with kr pistons as I thought they were smaller?

What he said
Mine is just about how I want it now, although needs putting back together after installing a decent gearbox and hydro clutch. 260bhp will be very achievable if you use a programmable ECU. Mine is running Megasquirt.
Whereabouts are you?

Glad to hear your getting there with it mike and it's good to see another one in the making geebee, I'll be following your progress and ill offer any help/advice I can if you need it. I've opted for distributer less ignition with an aftermarket ecu, everything has been ported and rebuilt and I've fitted a 65mm pully to my stage4 charger so I'm really keen to find out how this all plays out.
Sounds like a great spec geebee, How far off with it are you?

Thanks daniboy123
Really appreciate the help if I get stuck.
Not really much to report at the moment. I've had my LSD put into my CTN gearbox.
This has been done by Bexhill Gearboxes
Also purchased some Nology hot wire HT leads.
I've had the block bored out to take my new Pistons and gave her a lick of paint.
My stage four supercharger has been fully refurbished with all new parts and given a splash of paint to.
Going to be using mk2 rallye speedo as its got higher mph and rpm.
Chopped up my inlet manifold to make a custom cam cover. Once I've wrinkle painted it think it will look good.
A lot more going on after Xmas
