MK1 Golf GTI Campaign completely unmolested been sat for 5 years!

Hey Guys !

Just brought my first ever Mk1 Golf GTI, been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember, needs a fair bit of work lots of rust but a very promising project I think, completely original and untouched down to every detail ! More pictures on the way, not sure if this was a good find or not so people let me know ! Paid just over a grand for it.

Pictures on the link below as I cant get the upload to work !

Comment on whether I got a good deal or not interested to see how my first Golf purchase is, and I wanna get a rough value for the car :)

Wow, bet it will look even better after a good wash. Is everthing intact?  Looks like it from the outside pics.

yeah man the paint is a bit shot tbh doesn't look much better than that has a nice look to it though I think haha.

Has everything full set of alloys including a spare and has the jacking kit, all electronics work. has all original sound system with pioneer stereo with a proper graphic eq which all works.

The interior is absolutely its best quality I'll get some good pictures later after a good clean but yeah really it's the cars current best aspect its spot on.

Hoping to get it started tomorrow ! had it delivered home today but yeah all very exciting stuff.

Just to clarify as far as I can find everything in this car is 100% original how much do people reckon its worth ?

Might be too late but don't fire it up without checking the fuel system for rust first. Many "Barn Finds" suffer with rusty fuel filler necks and shoving a gallon of fresh fuel in it and starting it merely washes any rust up into the fuel system and generally badgers them up.

Personally I would also drop the sump off and make sure the sump's not full of gunge. There's been a few oil pump failures on re commissioned cars as well.

Just seen the extra pictures on photobucket, certainly you sem to have got a lot for your money, be interesting to see what its like underneath when you start to strip down.  Interior looks good as you say, looks like its been pretty dry in there.

All i can see missing from the pictures is the Leather Campaign steering wheel (looks more like a standard one) and possibly the drivers side fog lamp looks more like a spot lamp?

At least you will also be starting from what may be a rusty car but an original one, not uncovering someones previous bodges.  Good luck with it - dont forget to get lots of pics before you start on where stickers, stripes trim fit, often its the last bits of detail that spoils a restoration to 'original' look.

thanks for the advice guys yeah I'll be viligant and taking lots of photos, there is a fair amount of rust but I reckon I can fix it mostly surface with the odd patch having gone through, touchwood anyway ! and thanks for the responses I'll be sure to make sure I do a full oil change and sump clean with new gaskets (Y) and oil filter :)

Just checked the steering wheel it is definitely leather the dust in that picture made it look matte hence the unoriginal look haha, and yeah I noticed the fog light, but I reckon the lamp has gone slightly milky so its lost the definition on the lines and the bulb is different but I think that's it, going to give it a good clean and change the bulb and see if my theory is correct.

Just out of interest, the speakers are in the top side of the front doors and I haven't seen them setup like that before, they look like they've either been put in very well as they are both in the exact same position and there are no marks on the doors leather so I cant work out whether they are after market or not anyone got any ideas ?

At last, a "Barn find" that actually looks like it's been found in an actual barn!!.. Looks like it has a lot of potential. The speakers were not stock in that position. They were behind the small grill pods at the bottom of the door card. Nice find..
