Hi folks.
I just picked up a solid white 1989 Gti cab. I'm just getting started with this restoration project, I'm restoring it in my spare time and it will be for sale when it's finished. This thread is here to document the work done and hopefully provide you all with a bit entertainment.
The shell is in amazing condition with the exception of the front crossmember and front panel. Front panel and crossmember will be replaced, probably going to replace the bonnet too. It has rust between the outer skin and the inner frame. Everything else is here to stay.
Can't find the pics of the car before I started working on it.

One engine mount didn't want to play ball during engine removal.

The front panel and cross member have previously been replaced but a lack of prep or primer have taken a toll, both beyond economical repair.
Removed the front panel and cross member today, started to remove and treat the rust. All seems fairly straight forward, not found anything nasty yet.

That doesn't look too bad, it should clean up nicely
Is the engine and bay staying standard?

It's been a long time. I'm going to update the thread fully soon. Here's a little teaser for now.
