pre-90 mk2 golf ones are the same too, 90spec ones fit but they use a nicer clip on plug so you'll need to cut those off and splice to your loom

the mk1/pre-90 mk2 holders are NLA unfortunatly, 90spec mk2 ones are 191941669A and cost 4.29+VAT each. though as i say need the plugs as well which are junior timer type so readily available on loads of cars not just vw

I bought new number plate lights from GSF a few years back, genuine Hella and cost about £10 for the pair. Might be worth checking there.
