Whey Hey Hey....Just got got my first Mk 1 Golf

Hi there,
Just joined the forum after purchasing my first MK1 Golf Cabby yesterday.
Always fancied a hard top but come across a good condition original cabby and the sun was shining and the next thing i knew she was mine.
Insured the wife too (got her on side!)
Needs a little work but the basics are there.  
Any one give any advice on cleaning the interior and roof?
Body and paint are in good condition although obviously 20 years old (will post some pictures)
Has anyone modified the lapbelts in the back as had 2 digruntled nephews who argued over who turn it was to have a go.  Just didn't want to chance taking one in the back with them funny seats and just a lap belt.
Looking forward to attening a meet possibly Wrexham/Chester and living the dream

nice one mate, best car i ever owned is the mk1 cabby, suns out the roof comes down, the grin grows, even though she leaks i still love her

Yeah will get some pickies uploaded. Thats why I need the wife onside!  
Although she nearly crashed it first go, she didn't realise how heavy the stearing was going to be……but were talking again now.

LOL… hope you mentioned about the brakes compared to modern cars too  :redfaced:  :wink:

Should of emphasised that point before she got in it!!! Was hairy for a couple of miles my heart was in my mouth.
Done best part of 100 miles today an i now think she is fully converted as i only did about 30 of them miles.

You should get yourself and your missus to the AGM.  It's the biggest thing on the MK1 calendar mate as it's dedicated to the MK1 golf and people from all over the country and abroad turn up… it's a full weekend.. camping and everything.  Check the national events section.  Also get yourself to some regional meets as it's a good way to meet up with others and just have a laugh  :dontknow:

my golf is a 1976 1.1 swallowtail in red,
considering age its kept its colour very well but i intend on getting a respray anyway once i have sold my old mini
my milage on the golf is 50,000 and its had one previous owner who lived a few minutes away from me ha, maybe the couple only used it for trips to asda,
it failed its MOT on the horn not working! wtf
so i need to sort that out otherwise its nice

could you get me a picture f the rear lights? i have a swallowtail golf and one of my lights has a crack, wana see is the cabro`s are the same, ta
