What to ook for when buying a Mk1?

Hi there, I'm a brand new member from Norway!

I've been searching the great Internet for a guide on buing your first VW Golf Mk1, and ended up here. How do you know a good Golf from a bad Golf? What are the most common faults on the first generation of VW Golf?
