Going to build a MK1
Hello,
So a little about me.
Been a car fan all my life and owned every mark of golf except a 3 and 4. Currently in a 2018 Golf 7.5 R.
I am planning on building a Mk1 golf over the next year. A clean golf with a stronger engine.
My question is quite simple.
Seeing as I plan to strip it back to its metal, repaint and upgrade pretty much everything. Suspension, Engine etc
Would I be better to start with a GTI or just a clean Mk1 3 door body?
Something similar to this
Except I won't be bagging it or running it quite as low.
Cheers
Majin

The GTi is now becoming a valuable classic in original condition so if you're planning on modding you'd be better off buying a good standard model and start from there. Plus you'll probably save money on the original purchase price of the car.

Get a GTI shell. - Makes my GTi even more rare then!!
Joking aside, get the best shell you can find regardless of what donor it is. The less welding that needs doing the better.

Or buy a cabriolet, they are newer, cheaper, easier to get hold of and rust less than tin top cars…
