Mk1 for sale
Hello all, just joined the forum!
I've a had a few VWs (mostly mk2s), but looking to buy a mk1 very soon.
Spotted a minter for sale on eBay, can anyone tell me if they have knowledge of this car? Anyone know previous owners?

Nice looking car on the outside but not my cup of tea with that silly gear stick tower, wrong engine, bulk head removed, not sure it even has a heater?? Is the car battery even fixed to anything, stretched tyres (my pet hate)…. in my eyes to much money as I would want something more original and not modified that much…
I recon this will go up in valve more in time and it's still £1500 cheaper…. Just my opinion….

Modified or standard, i am obviously behind the times as they both seem rather expensive

12-13k is super clean unrestored series 1 gti money in my world.
I wouldn't pay 7k for either of them.

I do agree with you I was just showing a link to something else for similar money advertised.
I've never paid more than £1000 for a Mk1 or Mk2 Gti..

It looks like the white one is on a private plate so difficult to ID. I think the red one looks a fairly honest car albeit the wrong coloured seats. Too many mods on the white one for it to be a true GTI now.

I think the red one may be a personal (military, diplomats etc) import that didn't match the exact UK specs hence the different coloured seats. If you look at the rear seat pics I think you can just see the little clip that holds the seat belt near the window that all imports seemed to have.
I'd have the red one, the white one is almost a custom car with only the glass MK1 GTI, everything else inc the shell modified or replaced
Nice to know my GTI is worth £12K+

The original reg on the white one is:
XPN 181Y…….
Which would make the car an 82 registered car? Correct me if I'm wrong!? Ad states it's an 83 reg.

Y is '83 model year. Mines a really early 1800 with many parts dated summer 82 but is a Y-reg.

I think the white one is a nice car. If you intend to modify a car then it makes sense as if you had a full restoration done to this type of standard it would probably cost you more than that.
UKD buy cheap, put em back to standard and sell high, from my experience of them. He bought a Derby for 2.5k, took the wheels off and replaced with steels and then put it up for sale at over 10k. Derbys aren't worth that! I know because my is better.
So personally i wouldn't put too much faith in the asking price for the UKD one. Be interesting to see if it sells and how long it takes……..
