Hello, got my first Mk1

Hi all,

A quick hello from me - I've just purchased a Mk1 GTi Cabriolet, in black.  I've had a Mk3 GTi 16V and a Mk4 4Motion before, as well as a Bora TDi 150, and a Passat.  Thought it was about time for a Mk1!  Think I picked up a bargain - although I bought the car blind on eBay (first time I've done this, impulse purchase!), it has a brand new gearbox, clutch, brakes, tyres, exhaust, black Mohair hood, immaculate paintwork and no rust or corrosion anywhere.  It's only covered 6000 miles over the last 12 years, and has been dry garage stored for most of that time.  The interior, however, leaves a lot to be desired!  So I'll no doubt be heading to the forums for some advice on how to restore this.  It also has some minor electrical issues, being handy with a multimeter I'm hoping to be able to sort these.  It also needs a bloody good service and an "Italian tune-up"!

Does anyone know if there is a region for Hampshire or the Southeast?

Yep, that's the one!  Interior not perfect by any means but a good driver and looks the part.

Do post up some pictures of the car and interior so that we can try to give you some sound advice.  

Do you plan to keep the car standard?

Thanks!  My intention is to keep it as standard as possible - the exception being a Stainless rear box.  I'm currently exploring Longlife options, apparently they can supply something that looks and sounds as near to original as poss.  As for the interior, I'll post some pics over the next few days.  The door cards are in pretty bad shape, I don't know if these can be refurbed or not?  I understand these can be quite hard to come by.
