Morning all,
Thought I would share my project with you all.
I have a Helios blue campaign with golf g60 engine and gearbox. The car Aldo has g60 brakes with ABS and power steering.
the project is about 80% complete and I need some from the knowledgable people on this forum to get her over the finish line. I will try to get some pics uploaded.
the biggest problem I have at the moment is the gear linkage is broken so it can't go into gear from the stick and I can't find a g60 linkage anywhere. If anyone knows how to get over this problem please let me know. I will be forever grateful.
any questions please ask.
regards
steve

It was sort of a barn find, guy lived on a farm did all the work himself as he was a engineer but never finished the finer details. car was fully running and driving but I wanted to get it 100%. He had the car for over 10 years and never once took it to a show or posted on the Internet. I've had the car for a year and need to get it finished.

Looks amazing!
What gearbox is in it? If it's a G60 'box then it will be cable change, if it's an 020 (rod change) box then your normal linkage should be a straight fit.
The stick in the car looks standard, so I'd think it's 020 and you just need parts for a mk1 5 speed linkage. Can you post some pics of the gearbox in the bay and the browen/missing parts of the linkage?

its a 02a G60, found the part i needed. wasn't the linkage i was missing but the selector fork. Managed to order one from VW so hopefully gearbox will be working next week.
Anyone have any recommendations for induction system?

Hi Steve nice looking Gti.
Induction wise you have a few options.
Cotton gauze K & N style filter, Honda prelude or Honda S2000 paper cone filter or finally what I've done which is fit a civic type R FN2 air box with paper panel filter.
G60's are sensitive to dust and can cause damage in the long run where it gets mixed with the oil mist from the boost return pipe and wear the scroll.
Paper filtration is recommended but an oiled cotton filter will be fine as long as its kept clean and re oiled properly.
In my G60 build I have tried a paper cone filter and ended up with the air box. See http://vwgolfmk1.org.uk/forum/index.php?page=topicview&type=view&id=155290&start=300

I tried the standard air box and as you said there is no way that will fit without work to the wing.
I spent ages researching air boxes that were the correct shape with the inlet and outlet in the right place and wouldnt choke the engine.
The civic one is designed for a 200bhp engine, its running sweet as a nut on mine
Re mounting I have quite a few pics of how I've mounted it in my thread you can use as a reference. I made brackets out of aluminium sheet and strips with stainless bolts and nylock nuts. I had to remove the washer bottle bracket to fit it snuggly.
If you have any questions fire away.
